Rolling Forecast - Offset for Forecast consumption

$

Hi Guys,

I wanted to set up / configure a rolling forecast consumption concept. For example :

                                   February      March                                    April

Forecast                       200                 20                                        50

Shipped Qty                  50                  100                                       50

Rolling Forecast                       150(200-50 From FEB)                 70 (170-100)

New Forecast                                   170(150+20)                              120

And So on.

So as shown above its clear that 200-50 is done and the result of the difference between forecast and shipped Qty is made available in the next Month Period ID as rolling Forecast(150). Then the result of this can be Added to current month forecast to calculate the New forecast for the month. Now the Rolling Forecast for the month of March would be 70 and this should reflect in April as a carry forward.. then the logic continues...

Looking forward to customization and calculation logic ( at all levels) help.

Thanks

SAP IBP Optimizer Performance

Hi, experts

I would like to know about performance between SAP systems: "SAP APO Optimizer" x "SAP IBP Optimizer"(IBP for Response and Supply), because it will be a key Point Decision for a particular customer to migrate the current APO optimizer system to IBP for Supply.

IBP and APO Equivalences Assumptions: Considering that in both cases we don´t have server constraints, APO and IBP Application are using the appropiated Best-Practices and in both system we are considering the same business context

How could i provide a number of performance improvement comparing these two systems?

For example: SAP IBP is "x%" faster than the same SAP APO system

Thanks!

Please find below the Questions & Answers for the SAP Integrated Business Planning Partner/Sales Enablement Webinar on SAP Integrated Business Planning for inventory on April 5, 2016.  The slides and replay for this webinar will be posted here: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-71318.

Answered Questions

--------------------------

1. Feedback Link : https://surveys.sap.com/SE/?SID=SV_4I9TpZMstwkNggJ&sessiontitle=PRASGEN_15109&EventID=19803

3. Can 'Drivers of Inventory' be customized, lets say if I want to see production capacity is one factor, can I set that as a factor and display the percetage?

Yes, you can.  You can add attribues or configure new Key Figures to do so.

4. Question: is 6.1 available now? it was announced to be release in Q1/2016

Yes it has been released.

IBP 6.1 has been released.

5. there is a rumour that the hardware requirements for 6.1 is double in comparison to 5.0 - this is due to the single planning area. is thsi statement correct?

IBP is a cloud-based solution and so hardware requirements other than HANA sizing are not that relevant. In any case, I am not aware of any such rumor

6. Does IBP allow safety stock calculation using Normal vs. Poisson methods? Does that have to be explicitly defined, or does it choose the best method of calculation?

IBP for inventory uses Gamma distribution to model non-normal demand. It automatically does the mapping to any distribution and so no user setting is required. Gamma distribution can model any distribution shape

7. Are there customers using this solution for non SAP backend?

Yes

8. If I already have EIS(Smartops) .at my client...and client is implementing IBP S&OP....whether IBP-Inventory should be considered as well?

Definitely. There can be benefits of consolidating the data model.

9. is this demo based on 6.1? or still an older version?

This will be 4.x. We will share the 6.1 IBP for inventory demo in a future session. Thanks!

10. Does the IBP for Inventory generate orders?

It sets the targets. Execution or supply planning systems generate the orders based on the supply needs.

11. According to a previous slide there is an interface between IBP Inventory and ERP / APO for the inventory targets. Is this interface already available or will this be included in a future release?

Already available

12. Target Inventory calculated by IBP-I is to be seen at the start of bucket or end of bucket ?

Target inventory is at the start of the bucket. We will also report average inventory in addition to target

13. Is IBP 6.1 having full-fledged NW ABAP App Server? What is the division of code in HANA DB and ABAP

IBP 6.1 is based on SAP NetWeaver. Since it is a cloud application (SaaS), it doesn't matter what the division of code is.

14. Can IBP Inventory fully replace an existing EIS(Smartops) implementation?

Yes. It has most of the capabilities used by EIS customers today.

15. Any pointer to compare EIS (on-premise) vs IBP Inventory

We can. However, it is more productive to look at the requirements vs. the capabilities.

16. Does IBP Inv allow to factor independent variables ? like revenue ? either as positive or negative factor on inventory targets?

You could model this as configuration or within forecasting. Since inventory uses the forecast, the inventory targets will adjust automatically

17. Is IBP - I is comparable to MEIO of smartops or all modules (DIm,SIM,PIM) of smartOps?

Yes, with release IBP 6.2

18. Customer has resistance to move to cloud and is interested in EIS. What should be compelling advantage to convince to move to IBP Inventory?

User Experience, HANA, flexibility, analytics, improved planner adoption. Cloud is great because it frees up IT resources from many initial and ongoing tasks. It allows companies to get started really quickly.

19. continuation to earlier questions - Means independent variables to be used in calculating factor in forecast error to be used in inventory? how independent variables it can have reverse impact? do you have any link or doc with such example?

You would use independent variables in statistical forecasting to adjust forecasts. The forecasts would be an input to inventory

20. so with IBP 6.2 is it comprable to MEIO only or all?

IBP 6.2 is comparable to EIS (all). Some things are handled differently (better) in IBP. IBP for inventory has additional functionality that EIS does not.

21. Can IBP for Inventory calculate Lead Time errors automatically or do they have to be entered manually?

Both options are available. LT error calculation can be configured

23. are lead times used to calculate safety stock in IBP fixed? or can the system determine the lead time based on history, and therefore also lead time error?

Similar question - answer is both. Lead time and lead time error calculation based on history can be configured

24. Can IBP for Inventory calculate Forecast Errors automatically?

Yes.  The forecast error operator released in IBP 6.1 will calculate forecast error CV and bias.

25. Forecast error calcualtion : is it the same approch the EDS follows to calcualte it ?

Yes it is and also same as in EIS

26. Data Integration: I assume input/output data points are quite standarized. Is there out-of-box data intergation available, e.g. via HCI ?

HCI Template is on the roadmap.

27. What is the Back end system for IBP? Is current SAP-ECC is required to get the data for IBP Planning? Is Non HANA db is allowed for IBP?

IBP is cloud based solution and so the stack is determined by SAP. SAP-ECC is not required but we have pre-built integration points. We can also connect to other systems via HCI

28. Recommended safety stock in IBP Inventory is time phased. Is there a best practice for how to transfer this information to connected transaction system - e.g. ECC?

If you the target is IBP for Supply or APO SNP, you can use time-varying safety stock. If the target system only supports a static field, we recommend that you run IBP for inventory more frequently (weekly) and update the static field (saefty stock, safety days of coverage, ROP) as an average or maximum over X weeks (easily configured) or handled in HCI

29. Can IBP - Inventory optimize the service level based on target stock and other parameter?

We can configure rules to do rules-based segmentation. We will also predict the service level given inventory levels by Q4 2016. Supporting service level optimization based on a constraint (overall target, inventory budget,e tc). can be handled via versions

30. Is there a document which cleanrly  describe (Pros/Cons, Differences, Any recommeded settings)   different algorithms  used for Inventory Optimization?

There are limited settings such as whether you want to use Fill rate or Non stockout probability, if a product location is stocking or not which are straightforward.

31. updating this static fields for safety stock is something standard in IBP? Or we would have to connect to SNP and then update the fields through a macro?

This can be configured in IBP

32. can we create own macro here ..if yes then where ?

Yes. In the Excel template. Then save the template.

33. Does IBP 6.1 consider calender weeks, or can weeks still be assigned to only one month at a time?

This is on the short term roadmap.

34. Hi, Will inventory optimization consider lead times to deliver at customers as well, just like vendor lead time or production lead time?

Yes

35. are manual changes done to safety stock proposal are recorded in system?

yes. you can enable change history in IBP and it tracks the changes and creates a report

36. Forecast error and bias compensation and demand variability analytics is available with 6.1 (released)

37. can we access the inventory optimization log? optimizer log along with input and output log

This is planned

38. What is Service-level prediction? Is it Service-level Optimizaiton?

No. This is a simulation where given current inventory levels (or any inventory level), we can predict the service level achievable

39. Intermittency in forecast error calculation is available in 6.1 We will expose some of the settings that drive it in 6.2.

40. Are the forecast error calculations in 6.1 by lag? and does SS calculation use those by lag?

In 6.1, it is for a single lag and the lag must be predetermined in the IOFORECAST key figure. That is, either via HCI, you load the right lag forecast directly into IOFORECAST. Or you could load different lags into different KFs and then copy the right lag into IOFORECASt. In 6.2, we can calculate different lags. Which lag to use can be configured

The last sentence, the correct release is 6.3

42. Are the inventory courses currently only for the 4.0 and 5.0 versions?  Was the live demo just now in 4.0 system or 6.0 system?

All training courses are based on 6.1 now. The demo shown by Alexis was 6.1.

44. any plans in the future to have similar ISL overrides as we had in EIS?

Yes, with min and max ISL constraints

45. is it possible to influence calculation algorithm?

Broadly speaking yes through inputs. This question is a bit too vague. If you are more specific we can better address.

46. Is there a plan to include enhanced segmentation capabilities in IBP (for inventory)?

yes

47. how this time depending safety stock works with ERP (ECC) alone (so without APO)?

ECC can only accept a static value. Typically we send an average safety stock value when only a static value can be received.

Open Questions

--------------------------

50. For Raw materials and Semi finished materials, is IBP will drive the vendors to supply for their external procurement to manage manufacture of Finished products requirements as per IBP Planning?

51. min/max overrides in 6.2 or 6.3?

52. how is the calculated SS transferred to IBPSupply / IBPSOP?

53. Can IBP for inventory be used to calculate SS based on consumption variability only (without forecast error) for consumption based planning?

54. There is mention of 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 versions? What is the timeline for making these versions available - quarterly?

Templates HCI-DS : Server not registered

Hi all,

In HCI-DS, I am trying to use the template "SOP_MD_ProductMaster" to extract Product MD from ECC to IBP.

In the data flow, when I try to execute the task, it ends with the following error :

RFC CallReceive error <Function /BODS/RFC_ABAP_INSTALL_AND_RUN: RFC_ABAP_MESSAGE- Exception condition "SERVER_NOT_REGISTERED"

Extracting data from ECC using a simple table or extractor works well.

Any ideas what might be the cause of the problem?

Thanks,

Pierre

Hello community,

Could anybody please help me with my following issue?

I try to enter the "Analytics" tile of SAP IBP 5.0 and I come up with an alert window that says "Unable to retrieve chart data".

Do you have any idea about the cause of this alert?

For your own information, I have already integrated/uploaded master data successfullly and  beisdes, all the appropriate roles are already assigned to my user.

Thank you for your support

How to enable network visualization chart icons in IE

For some users, when a network visualization chart is plotted in Internet Explorer, the icons may not display, even though it displays in Chrome browser. See screenshots below:

IE                                                                                                      Chrome

1.png     2.jpg

First note that Chrome is the preferred browser for Analytics and IBP. To resolve this issue in Internet Explorer, please follow these steps:

  1. You must have SAP-icons font installed
  2. Check your security settings in Internet Explorer and verify that “Font Download” is turned on:
  • Internet Explorer Settings -> Internet Options

      3.png

  • Under Security Tab, select Internet, and then Custom Level

    4.jpg

  • Make sure font download is enabled under Downloads

    5.png

    3. Explicitly set font to SAPGUI-Icon

     a. Click on Settings -> Internet Options.

     b. Click on Fonts button under General Tab

     6.jpg

     c. Select SAPGUI-icons under Webage font and select OK. (Any idea where this can be downloaded from?)

     7.jpg

     d. Refresh Network visualization chart and icons should display in IE.

Automate Data Loads from Staging to Core tables

Hi Experts,

We are using S&OP on-premise system and integrating data from ECC through Data Services. How can we automate data loads from SOPDD_STAG_* for master data and SOPDD_STAGING_KFTAB_* for key figure data into core tables.

Is there a stored procedure which can be run on periodic basis for the same?

Thanks in advance.

Loading Data (MD + KF) in S&OP 3.0 on premise without BODS

$

Hello,

My customer is implementing S&OP 3.0 on premise. The Planning Area has been set up and the manual data load with CSV files for both MD and KF is working correctly.

Now we are in step to make this data integration stuff running in a much more automated way, but unfortunately the customer is not ready to use an ETL tool like BODS. So we are thinking of using an alternative way like Hana SDI (ETL Embeded within Hana) or Hana SQL scripts !

Does someone have some experience and/or recommendation of implementing such approach for automatic data integration from flat file (ex. CSV) to Hana S&OP or IBP.

Thanks for your help

Statistical Forcasting in SAP Integrated Business Planning for demand FAQ

$

During our “IBP - Statistical Forecasting” Special Topic Webinar on February 17, 2016, there were a lot good questions in the chat. Not all of them could be answered during the meeting. We therefore used the questions in the chat to create this FAQ document.

“SAP Integrated Business Planning Webinar –SPECIAL TOPIC: Statistical Forecasting

Recording Link:https://sapnaevent.adobeconnect.com/p8nzqux7asg/

Slides Link

Topics Covered:

  • Statistical Forecast Models in SAP IBP for demand
  • Statistical Forecast Models in SAP IBP for sales and operations
  • Review which Statistical Models are included in each SAP IBP application
  • Demo
  • Q&A

1. What is the new way of running the forecast and how it changed from 4.0 to 5.0 where before you ran the forecast at the base level of the target KF, and now you are able to run it at any level of aggregation from the target KF? Does that suggest that the target KF for the forecast is at the same level as the source KF (i.e. history)?

Source and target key figure do not need to be on the same base planning level. Actually you need to define the level on which you want to forecast. During forecasting run the source key figure is aggregated and target key figure disaggregated according to the rules defined for these key figures.

2. Is it possible to execute Statistical Forecasting also in interactive mode/simulation mode via the Microsoft Excel Add-In? E.g. for What-If Analysis

Yes. You can execute statistical forecasting models also in simulation mode via the IBP Excel Add-In

3. Is it possible to execute Statistical Forecasting on multiple planning levels?
Yes. The user can for example freely select the planning level in his excel planning view and execute the forecasts based on this. The system checks that the attributes of the freely selected planning level (in the planning view) are contained in the base planning level of (at least one of) the output key figures (such as the statistical forecast KF, corrected history KF) of your forecast model.Only such forecast models can be selected that meet this criteria. In other words basically the system checks that the result can be stored correctly (can be disaggregated to the base planning level of the output key figure).

4. How does the user define a time series with a multiple level hierarchy?
This is done via configuration of the planning model.

5. Is it possible to analyze at which level the statistical forecast model should run in an ideal case? What about Forecast Level Optimizer (FLO)?
Currently not possible. This is a roadmap topic.

6. When scheduling demand jobs in the front end is it possible to specify successor/predecessor, replicating process chains functionality?
Currently not possible. This is a roadmap topic.

7. Is it possible to execute the statistical forecast algorithms based on customized / customer specific key figures or do we have to use a standard  key figure (e.g. like APODPANT in APO)?
You freely define the input and output key figures that you want to use. The key figures are not hard coded. You define which ones you want to use.

8. How often does IBP data need to be updated? In a weekly or daily basis?

That depends how often you want to run the statistical forecasting. It makes sense to update the sales history (e.g. from an ECC system) prior to that

9. How can I automize the statistical forecasting runs?
The statistical forecast runs can be scheduled regularly (e.g. weekly or monthly at a specific time) via IBP’s Microsoft Excel Add-In. In future, it is planned to further automize this process and also to provide more visibility across all scheduled jobs (roadmap topic).

10. Is an automatic forecast selection model available in the SAP IBP application for the Statistical Forecasting Models?
Yes. You can set up the forecast model in a way to pick the best algorithm based on the result of a certain error measure (e.g. MASE).

11. How can we know which forecast model has been chosen by the automatic forecast model selector for the products?

The forecast model selected by pick-best shows in the forecast log

12. What happens when MAPE calculation is executed and no values are found? In APO-DP as MAPE is a kind of percentage the jobs aborted. What would be result if no history is available in IBP?

The job processes all selected planning combinations. If some cannot be forecasted the job does not fail.

13. Is it possible to separate the history horizon for statistical forecast calculation from the horizon of the forecast error calculation? E.g. using 36 months history for calculation of the statistical forecast versus only showing the forecast error based on the last 12 month?

Not at this time. The horizon is set at the forecast model level

14. Is Character based forecasting possible in IBP for demand?

Currently not possible

15. Will the automatic assignment setting for forecast models overwrite the filter in excel add-on when you run forecast?
There is currently no “automatic” forecast model assignment in IBP. The assignment is a manual process that needs to be handled prior to running the forecasting. When using the “Forecast Model Assignment” option, the filters in Excel are overwritten by this.

16. Is there a concept of proportion factors in IBP?

Yes, there is a concept of proportion factors in IBP. However, it is not possible to calculate the prop. factors in IBP at this point in time.

17. Is there any capability for leading indicator forecasting?
Leading indicators (e.g. Corporate IT spending’s could indicate future hardware sales) can be used in IBP by leveraging Multiple Linear Regression. However the time lag is not analyzed by IBP automatically, you need to add the leading indicator with multiple time lags (offsetted with various number of periods) so that the regression detects which lags is appropriate. For this you need to create additional key figures where the leading indicator is offsetted with various lags and these key figures should be added to the regression model.

10. Would the offset in the forecast model also affect the seasonality (e.g. shift a holiday like Christmas)?
Yes.

19. Can we define a frozen horizon which is not overwritten by the new forecast?

Defining a frozen horizon is separate from the statistical forecast and would be done with IBP planning area configuration.

20. Will there be the option to forecast quantiles?
Currently not possible. This is a roadmap topic.

21. Can we define a certain horizon in which the KPIs are calculated or will they be calculated for the complete ex-post forecast?
At the moment the whole ex-post forecast is considered. Further enhancements are planned for this topic.

22. Will IBP Demand do both bottom up aggregation and top down disaggregation? Or, are you limited to choosing one?

Bottom up aggregation and top down disaggregation are supported.

23. How does the system do time based disaggregation? From months to weeks if the weeks cross over?

Disaggregation is a setting by key figure and part of the planning area setup. In that case, it is already taken care of. The “week-to-month split” is planned to be available with the next IBP release.

24. If we choose a forecasting level, then we need to ensure disaggregation is defined to base planning level...or does the system automatically do it?

The system is aggregating and disaggregation the key figures automatically according to the rules defined for these key figures.

25. Is the disaggregation done according to the rule of the TARGET / output KF?

Yes.

26. Is it possible to have Daily, Weekly and Monthly buckets in a single forecast model?

No. you have to specify the time bucket (day, weeks, months) per model. It’s not possible to have multiple levels in one model.

27. I want my Demand Planner to see only specific forecast models. Can I control that?

This scenario is supported by configuring the permissions. There is a dedicated authorization object for forecast models.

28. How does IBP support “segmentation"?

There is already ABC segmentation functionality available in IBP. More advanced ABC support is on the roadmap. In addition also XYZ is on the roadmap.

29. I thought there was a plan to use only one model / planning area for different needs, instead of separate like we have today.

Correct. With SAP Integrated Business Planning for demand, we introduced another topic specific model (SAP6). However, we are planning to release also a new sample model (SAPIBP1) with the next IBP release. This new model will contain a unified planning including S&OP, Supply, Demand, and        Inventory.

30. “Lifecycle management phase-in phase-out” - Is product lifecycle planning supported as part of demand planning?

Basic lifecycle planning can be modelled in implementation projects and was already done by some customers. However, extended lifecycle planning functionality including phase in and phase out specifications and a connection to the forecasting runs is a high prio topic on the roadmap.

31. Is “Like Modelling” covered in IBP for demand?

Currently not. Like Modelling is also part of our Product Lifecycle Planning roadmap topic and is planned to be available in a later release.

32. How does the Statistical Forecasting Engine deal with new SKU's with mainly “pseudo demand”, e.g. false demand when a new SKU gets launched and only a week or so of actual sales data is already available?. Does it use both the pseudo and the new actuals data?

Via configuration in IBP, it is possible to come to a basic solution for such cases. However, this topic will also be addressed as part of the roadmap for “product lifecycle planning”.

33. How does IBP handle “Dead SKUs”? E.g. Materials that have no more sales but their history is required for roll-up. How are they handled?

You can leave the data in the system but exclude them from the forecasting. However, this topic will also be addressed as part of the roadmap for “product lifecycle planning”.

34. Is it possible to see alerts prepared in WebUI, in Excel Add-in Alert Dashboard?

No. These two forms of alerts are different.

35. What about data realignment?
Data Realignment as you know it from APO DP is not part of IBP right now. It is also a topic on our roadmap.

36. What is the scope for an integration with open source statistics tools like "R"?

We are looking into this, but this is on the long-term roadmap at the moment. Currently, we are enhancing the statistical methods that are already available in the Predictive Analysis Library (PAL) in HANA, e.g. ARIMA is on the roadmap.

37. Are you considering ARIMA and other models that APO DP did not have and other tools have?

Including the ARIMA model is on the roadmap for IBP for demand.

38. Does IBP allow for data transformations as Box & Jenkins?

The planned ARIMA model that is on the IBP roadmap would do the data transformations to arrive to a stationary time series. See PAL documentation for  further details: http://help.sap.com/hana/SAP_HANA_Predictive_Analysis_Library_PAL_en.pdf

39. Are the statistical algorithms the same for 1st, 2nd and 3rd order exponential smoothing and the APO Constant, Trend and Seasonal trend models?

There are slight differences in the implementation as IBP leverages the algorithms from PAL.See PAL documentation for further details: http://help.sap.com/hana/SAP_HANA_Predictive_Analysis_Library_PAL_en.pdf

40. For exponential smoothing models, what is the process for parameter determination (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma)?

There is a dedicated algorithm called “Automated Exponential Smoothing”, which allows for an automated parameter determination in IBP for demand.

41. How does the promotion elimination algorithm identify promotion lifts?

The algorithm uses a consumption logic to eliminate the uplifts

42. In case we don't want to eliminate the impact of promotion on our sales history, will there be any special configuration requirement for that?

No. In case you don’t want to use the promotion elimination, you can also use your data the way it is. You need to specifically configure the forecast model so that promotion elimination is executed.

43. Are you planning on developing group seasonlity functionality?

Currently not possible. This is a roadmap topic.

44. Will cell fixing be possible?

Currently not possible. This is a roadmap topic.

45. What is the difference in the offering between conventional APO-DP Stat Forecasting vs IBP Stat Forecasting?

Currently, pretty similar scope of both solutions. More advanced statistical methods planned for IBP demand.

46. What data volumes can forecasting accommodate?
For a statistical forecasting that is using time series data, there is no specific limit if proper sizing of the hardware is considered.

47. Is it possible to integrate to different ECC systems? Can you integrate through SAP PI/PO or HCI. Or would you need a normalized data set?

Integration is via HCI only. Basically it is possible to integrate multiple ERP system to IBP. If master data is not harmonized across the ERP systems, master data ID’s need to be mapped outside of IBP. If it’s required that order data is sent to IBP then in general the ERP order ID is not unique across the ERP systems and thus the corresponding data types of the IBP data model needs to be enhanced by e.g. the system ID of the source ERP system. The Response and Supply module of IBP which is new with IBP 6.1 currently only support one ERP system as source.

48. How is the forecast released to SNP? Can we maintain location split and period split for it?

The forecast is released to APO SNP via HCI. Location split and period split are not out-of-the-box supported, but can be modelled inside IBP if necessary using key figure disaggregation.

49. Will it be able to mass-export data and reload data back into IBP?

Functionality available with the HCI Integration

50. How is IBP integrated with BW? Are there plans to have an integrated BW cockpit like APO? Like APO-BW cockpit, e.g. for data loading or backups?

IBP is not using any BW functionality. However, IBP can be integrated with a BW. Data loading between IBP and BW is covered by IBP and HCI functionality. Backups are handled by SAP Cloud Operations as IBP is a cloud solution.

51. Is there any planned integration with the Unified Demand Forecast (UDF) in CAR?

We are looking into this topic of UDF, but this is far out from a roadmap perspective.

Hello community,

Would anybody have the pleasure to tell me if there is any possibility to modify the sequence of the bars on a bar chart according to values and not accroding to an alphabetical order?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm suddenly getting this error today when running the multistage inventory optimization.  It was working last night and I had not made any changes to the planning area.  Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Will
